How to work with me: THE COLLABORATION

From lighting to locations, we plan the details that make your day unique together. I guide you every step of the way while staying true to your essence.

Once the wedding location is established, I look at the logistics of the venue or venues and come up with a plan.

Things like the timing of the ceremony matter concerning the lighting, for example. Sometimes, that majestic mountain can trick you, and the sun will go down an entire hour earlier than expected. While this isn’t the end of the world, we all need to know and plan on it.

Another odd consideration is how close the ceremony will be to the rest of the venue, reception, or even cocktail hour. I can explain this one best in person.

Shooting big family portraits, in particular, often happens out of convenience, but they don’t have to. They can be orchestrated and planned with a much better outcome. With some forethought, we can get the best photos that your family will love.

Around this collaboration period, I will have forms for you both to fill out to help me understand the family dynamic and get to the heart of the images requested. There will be some back and forth. Even homework! Take the time to think through these logistical questions. I will be asking about a fair amount of intel.

I will create the shot list from here and share it with you. Changes can and will be made, especially if you work with a planner. If possible, I want to talk to the planners upon delivery of this first take-at-a-shot list. If you are working with a day of coordinator, that can sometimes be difficult – regardless we can always find a way. They need to see your expectations as much as I do. The photos are everything! And in my experience, planners usually agree with me 🙂

Your shot list depends on several factors that include but are not limited to whether or not you are doing a “first look,” the total guest count, the number of staged family portraits requested, the time of the ceremony concerning sundown, whether or not you want to attend cocktail hour and the size of your bridal party.

At this point, there will be some more homework regarding the aesthetics of your wedding. This is to help me with props and extra lighting if needed.

At the end of this collaboration process, I will have a whole folder of information that I can reference and share with my second shooter and assistants to be prepared for your wedding day/weekend.

xoxo
